About this booklet

Booklet contains "The Kasidah of Haji Abdu El-Yezdi" which, in a brief introductory note by Lady Isabel Burton entitled "The Kasidah Written Before the Rubaiyat", is revealed to have been written by Sir Richard F. Burton in 1853. An introduction by Charles J. Finger presented earlier in the work too attests to this fact, as does the short essay "Burton's Poem is Greater Than The Rubaiyat" by William Marion Reedy, also included.

The booklet also contains a brief poetic passage entitled "The Sunburnt Poet," was written by Theodore Watts-Dunton in tribute to Sir Richard F. Burton (Trieste, Oct. 20, 1890.)

In the chapter "The Morgue" in The First Hundred Million, Haldeman-Julius expressed "profound regret" that this title had to be discontinued, saying, "For Sir Richard Burton's version of The Kasidah has been a favorite of mine ever since I first read it as a young man. I always wanted to make an edition of that book available to the public at far less than the several dollars it usually costs. But ... There seemed nothing that could be done with it. At last it was consigned to The Morgue. But one of these days I'll find a way to sell The Kasidah, at a fraction of a dollar, and it will be brought back to the light."
